Joel Johnson for Coventry Town Council - District #3
Standing up for Taxpayers.
Our town has been well-served for the past two years by the present majority leadership of the Town Council. President Ray Spear, Vice President Laura Flanagan and Councilman Glen Shibley have done an outstanding job of guiding our town through these turbulent economic times. They are to be commended for delivering two consecutive town budgets with NO TAX INCREASE during either fiscal year. The Town of Coventry is the only municipality in Rhode Island that has been able to achieve this enviable accomplishment. If elected, I pledge to continue the hard work that has made this achievement possible. Re-assessing our town's priorities and aligning them with residents' ability to pay is crucial to providing much-needed financial relief for our town's beleaguered taxpayers while ensuring for all of us our future econonic success.
Elect a new voice, with new ideas, for District 3.
Our section of town faces real challenges that need to be addressed. Economic development is one of them. While other parts of Coventry have experienced renewal and growth, with the establishment of many new business enterprises, the areas encompassing the villages of Anthony, Quidnick and Harris have languished for decades without any appreciable improvement. To effectively address this situation the Town of Coventry needs to develop a well-conceived, unified plan for addressing this neglect and malaise, thereby injecting new life and economic vitality into our community which will ultimately provide nearby social, cultural and job opportunities for our residents. Working together, through a concerted effort of this sort, we can make Coventry (and District 3 in particular) a better, more prosperous place for all who live here.
Make your vote count on November 2nd.
If integrity, accountability and the courage to make the difficult choices necessary to bring sensible and cost-effective government to Coventry is what you're seeking in a Town Council representative, then I ask for your vote at the General Election on Tuesday, November 2, 2010. My election opponent will most likely have the support and votes of the municipal union and its members - I need yours! And, remember this: just like "Silent Cal"-
